Coroner identifies man fatally shot Tuesday night in York City
UPDATE: The York County Coroner's Office has released the name of the man who died at the shooting as 23-year-old Andrew Jackson, whose last-known address was on Walnut Street in York City. Police are investigating, and an autopsy is scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.
A man was shot to death Tuesday evening in the 300 block of East Cottage Place, police said.
York City Police were called there shortly before 8 p.m. and found the shooting victim.
He died on the way to the hospital, according to police.
The York County Coroner's Office confirmed that one person died in the shooting and said the person's name will be released after his family has been notified.
An autopsy to determine officially the cause and manner of death has been scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital, according to the coroner's office.
Police said they are investigating it as a homicide.
Mauily Emily, who lives down the street, said the shots woke him up. He said he heard about three shots.
"I came outside to see if he was OK," he said, nodding toward his son, who was sitting out on the porch with him about 40 minutes after the shooting.
Emily said he's lived there for about a decade and has never seen a shooting on the block.
Police about a half an hour after the shooting said they had no one in custody yet; officers said they were in the process of collecting evidence and talking to witnesses.
This is the second fatal shooting in the past week.
Ruby Mercado, 27, of the 600 block of West Market Street, was shot to death early Saturday morning in the 300 block of North Hartley Street.
The coroner's office has ruled that shooting a homicide, and police have an arrest warrant for Kameron Orr, 24, of 542 W. King St. on a charge of homicide in her death.
Anyone who has information about either shooting is encouraged to call York City Police at (717) 846-1234.
