A 4-year-old boy was flown to the hospital after he fell out of a second-story window of his Newberry Township home Wednesday evening, according to Newberry Township Fire chief Gary Hatterer Jr..

Hatterer said the boy had been playing in an upstairs room before he pushed the window screen out and fell about 12 feet down to the blacktop.

The call came in shortly before 4:20 p.m., according to county control. They confirmed that the child was loaded into the medical helicopter, which landed nearby at Newberry Elementary School in the 2000 block of Old Trail Road.

The boy was flown to Hershey Medical Center, Hatterer said. He declined to give further information about the child's injuries.

He said the boy was not home alone, and there doesn't seem to have been any negligence, though Newberry Township Police continue to investigate, as is the norm for any incident like this that involves serious injury to a child.
