The field of candidates in some York County races grew recently when candidates who aren't members of the two major parties filed paperwork to run in the general election.

The six candidates are either members of minor parties — Libertarian or Independent — or aren't affiliated with a party, according to Nikki Suchanic, head of the county's election and voter registration office.

Since primary elections in Pennsylvania are open to only registered Democrats or Republicans, minor party candidates had until earlier this month to file nomination petitions to get on the November ballot.

Here's a look at the six candidates and the office they are seeking:

•Marlin Cutshall Sr., an Independent, is running for Conewago Township supervisor.

•Nicole Russell, an Independent, is running for West York school board.

•Crystal Cochran, no party affiliation, is running for constable in Dallastown.

•Bruce Rex Merrill, no party affiliation, is running for New Freedom council.

•Steve Chronister, an Independent, is running for York County commissioner.

•Dave Moser, a Libertarian, is running for York City school board.
