Police were called to the scene of what was called a partial church collapse Wednesday afternoon.

But according to leaders of the Iglesia de Dios Church on Norh Duke Street, nothing was falling.

"We are doing renovations," said Efrain Reyes, the church pastor, "We had plans to ugrade the church- this meant replacing the wall."

Officials at the Northern York County Regional Police had reported to a call that the partial "collapse" was happening.

Police said the road between east 6th street and North Duke Streets were closed down.

It turned out later to be a mistake.

Reyes said his church bought the building nearly 13 years ago. As an older structure, they were aware they would need to upgrade the wall eventually to make it more structurally sound.

Reyes said the church, which has a congregation of just under 200 people, went through the proper paperwork to make the upgrades.

"We have to take down the wall," he said. "There just wasn't any harm to it."

He hopes York County residents will not be fearful of the church while it's going under upgrades.

"I just want people to know we are doing everything correctly," he said.
