York County Dems poised to elect new leader

York County Democrats will take another crack at voting for a new chairperson in September.

Democrats will hold a voting meeting a the Universalist Congregation of York, 925 S. George St., on Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. to replace long-time chairman Bob Kefauver, who is stepping down because of health reasons.

Committee members of the local party attempted to elect a new chairperson in July but they didn't have a quorum.

At the time, two people put forth their names to fill the position.

Carla Christopher, former poet laureate of York City, and Bill Hannsman, who is self employed and a resident of Dover Township, had circulated petitions to be considered for the position. But since a vote didn't happen, Christopher, Hannsman and any other candidate wanting to hold the post have to go through the process again at the next meeting.

To be eligible for election, candidates must collect at least 10 signatures on a nomination petition from committee members at the meeting.
