Dover man arrested after woman he allegedly kidnapped escaped

York Dispatch

A Dover man has been arrested and is facing multiple charges after allegedly assaulted and kidnapped a woman, driving her car toward Ocean City, Maryland.

On July 24, Austin Myers, 21, allegedly punched a woman in the face twice at Veteran's Park in New Freedom, then put her into her own vehicle and started driving toward the beach, according to police.

Myers threatened to tie her up and place her into the trunk, but the woman escaped by opening the car door and falling onto the highway, police said.

She was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance crew that witnessed the incident, and Myers fled the scene, police said.

Southern Regional Police issued a warrant for Myers on July 28. He was arrested three days later by a U.S. Marshals task force at a residence on Route 30 in Thomasville, police said. He was taken to York County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.

He faces charges of kidnapping, simple assault, terroristic threats, false imprisonment and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, police said.
