Police: York City teen wanted in double slaying
York City Police seek a teenager who they say shot and killed a pair of brothers in a car in June.
Police have obtained an arrest warrant for Durrell Cotton Jr., 19, of York, Detective Jeff Spence said. He said Cotton will be charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the shooting deaths of Angel Barrios, 21, and Abdiel "Tito" Vazquez-Soto, 19.
Anyone who has information about Cotton's whereabouts can reach York City Police at 846-1234 or text an anonymous tip to tip411. Police believe him to be in the York area, Spence said.
Background: Barrios and Vazquez-Soto were sitting in the front seats of a parked SUV at about 10:15 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the intersection of Jefferson and Juniper streets, when a car Cotton was riding in pulled up next to them, Spence said.
Cotton, a passenger in the car, opened fire, police allege, hitting Barrios in the chest and Vazquez-Soto in the abdomen.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, the detective said.
"He just started shooting into the parked car," Spence said.
Spence didn't want to elaborate yet on the motive, but he said it wasn't random — Cotton knew the two brothers.
After being shot, Barrios drove the SUV away from the scene, but crashed a short time later in front of the Graham Aquatic Center at the corner of Newberry Street and Madison Avenue, police said at the time.
Barrios was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:25 p.m., according to the coroner's office. Vazquez-Soto and back-seat passenger Francisco Rivera, 20, were rushed to York Hospital, where Vazquez-Soto was pronounced dead about 2 a.m., officials said.
Rivera was treated for injuries and released the next day, a York Hospital spokesman said.
The York County coroner's office ruled both deaths homicides, caused by the gunshot wounds rather than by the crash.
Spence said the incident remains under investigation. No charges have been brought yet against the other people in the car Cotton was riding in, but they may be brought later, he said.
