Pennsylvania jobless rate at 4.6 pct, lowest in more than 8 years
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate has dipped one-tenth of a percentage point to 4.6 percent, the lowest since September 2007.
The state Labor Department said Friday that total nonfarm jobs in January were down 16,100 from December’s record high of more than 5.85 million. The biggest drop was in education and health services.
But the agency said over the year, nonfarm jobs are still up by more than 34,000.
The national jobless rate also dipped but at 4.9 percent remains higher than Pennsylvania’s.
