Renovated Yorktowne Hotel will join Hilton brand
The Yorktowne Hotel, in the midst of a $20 million renovation, will join the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand when it reopens.
Members of the York County Industrial Development Authority made the announcement in front of the York City hotel Tuesday, May 15.
YCIDA chairman Jack Kay touted the new partnership as a way to allow the Yorktowne to remain a cornerstone of the community while providing the benefits and prestige that come with the Hilton name.
Andrew Taymans, vice president of asset and revenue for GF Management, which will manage the Yorktowne, said his company manages more than 20 other Hilton brand hotels but this will be its first in the Tapestry Collection.
The collection is a relatively new endeavor for Hilton that currently contains six operating hotels, including The Graham in Washington, D.C., and The Troubadour Hotel in New Orleans.
Its website states that these hotels offer "the best of both worlds: uncommon experiences and peace of mind."
Taymans said this partnership has been discussed for some time and that it won't change any renovation plans.
Developers hope to reopen the Yorktowne during fall 2019, Kay confirmed; it has been closed since November 2016.
Plans for the renovated hotel include 121 guest rooms, including two floors of suites, a rooftop event space and a full-service Market Street restaurant and cafe.
The project is funded, in part, by a $10 million state grant, and Kay made a pitch to attendees of Tuesday's announcement seeking more funding.
He said he would love to raise an additional $10 million for renovations, which could come from a variety of sources, including a historic tax credit, donations and investments.
The YCIDA, a quasi-governmental body staffed by the York County Economic Alliance, will be setting up a limited liability company to accept investments for those hoping to own a percentage of the hotel, Kay said.
Kay said no public money would be used to pay Hilton its franchise fee, and he declined to say how much that fee would be because he considered it Hilton's proprietary information.
