The state Department of Agriculture conducts annual inspections of food-serving businesses to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.

Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, employee hygiene and issues with chemicals and how they're handled.

Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.

Below is a list of establishments that were inspected April 3-9.

OUT OF COMPLIANCE

Regular inspections:

Pizza Hut, 3121 Cape Horn Road, Red Lion, 5 violations

Action: Violations included employees not properly trained in food safety; no written procedures for employees to follow when responding to event involving vomit or fecal matter discharge; plumbing system not maintained in good repair; and broken floor tile.

China One, 109 Glen Dr., Manchester, 12 violations

Action: Violations included child care conducted behind customer service counter; eating and drinking observed in food prep areas; cabbage heads observed black with heavy mold growth inside walk-in refrigerator; cracked and broken plastic tubs used for produce storage; food debris spillage on floor; wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution; food bowl stored inside hand wash sink; food not properly labeled; chlorine sanitizer at toxic level; and a can of WD 40 stored in food pan in kitchen.
