A new ordering system at a Subway sandwich shop in Spring Garden Township will allow customers to be their own sandwich artists.

The global restaurant chain’s “Fresh Forward” model is making its debut in Pennsylvania at the shop at 900 S. Richland Ave., according to a news release.

As part of a move to enhance the chain’s dining experience, the chain’s old-school deli-style system will be replaced by self-ordering kiosks and modern food display cases, among other updates.

“We’ve created a modern design that gives our guests choices — from how they order, to how they pick up their food, to how they enjoy their meal,” Subway Vice President of Operations Trevor Haynes said in a news release. “The reactions from our guests, our franchisees and the sandwich artists has been incredibly positive.”

The Richland Avenue shop also will feature pre-order pick-up areas for diners who order ahead using the Subway app as well as WiFi and USB charging ports, according to the release.

“We’re giving our guests more of what they love about Subway — like highlighting our fresh baked bread, cookies and some of our veggies in modern displays —  while providing them with modern features that they have not seen from us,” including the kiosks and new ingredients, said Chuck Lambert, a Subway franchisee and owner of the Richland Avenue location.
