Pie Five Pizza in York becoming new pizza, sandwich shop
Pie Five Pizza's short stint in York City is coming to an end with a quick switch to a new brand, Willy's Originals.
The Dallas-based pizza chain had just opened in mid-April at 890 Loucks Road, on a shared property with Chipotle.
Pie Five's signs have been replaced with Willy's signs both externally and internally as of Tuesday, Aug. 22, and a flier taped to the front door detailed that the location will no longer be associated with Pie Five Pizza Co. "in a few short days."
The flier adds that the restaurant will honor rewards earned at Pie Five until Sept. 4, at which point a new rewards system, titled Square, will replace it.
The new restaurant will specialize in scratch pizzas and craft sandwiches, according to signs inside the restaurant.
The Pie Five in Chambersburg also is being switched to Willy's Originals.
Both restaurants were opened by Peter Ballantine, a former McDonald's franchisee who had struck a deal last year to open up to 34 Pie Five locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, according to a news release.
Ballantine couldn't immediately be reached for comment, but a brief explanation of "The Willy's Originals Story" emailed to The York Dispatch explains that the new brand is being started by two guys with more than 50 years combined restaurant experience.
"Classic is exactly what you’ll get when you visit Willy’s," the story reads. "Simple and delicious, our time-honored flavors are available in both traditional and unique combinations. Our fresh fixings are locally sourced so there is no guesswork about the ingredients. Just great food that makes you feel like you’ve come home when you step inside the door."
The menu includes signature and custom pizzas, folds and sandwiches in addition to salads, soups, breadsticks and desserts.
