Latest food inspections: 2 out of compliance
The state Department of Agriculture conducts annual inspections of food-serving businesses to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.
Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, employee hygiene and issues with chemicals and how they're handled.
Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.
Below is a list of establishments that were inspected Aug. 1-7.
OUT OF COMPLIANCE
Wild Ginger York, 2444 Eastern Blvd., 16 violations
Action: Violations included several open employee's beverage containers observed in food prep area; in-use tongs stored hanging on stove pipes; wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solutions; food held at improper temperature; cutting blade observed with old food residue; mold-like substance observed on rubber door gaskets in sushi area; hand wash sink used as food prep sink; door to outside being propped open; paper towel dispenser empty at hand wash sink; no soap available at hand wash sink; and heavy accumulation of grease observed on vents and pipes.
Note: This is the third time this restaurant has been ruled out of compliance since July 2016.
New China Kitchen, 1500 N. George St., 22 violations
Action: Violations included food not being date marked; improper pesticide being used by non-certified applicator; employees observed without proper hair restraints; raw chicken in direct contact with raw beef; plastic bowls being used as scoops; wet wiping cloths not stored in sanitizer solution; raw squid stored directly on floor; all cooking equipment observed with accumulation of dirt, food residue, debris and grease; emptied food can observed in hand wash sink; no paper towels available at hand wash sink; floor in kitchen extremely dirty and dusty; hood system filters extremely dirty; no pest control program in place; dead roach-like insects observed under freezer and outside walk-in cooler; three live roach-like insects observed in hand wash sink, another three behind the freezer and more than 10 on the floor under than smoker.
Note: This is the third time this restaurant has been ruled out of compliance since February 2016 and second consecutive failed inspection.
