Yorktowne Hotel hosting public sale
As the Yorktowne Hotel prepares for major renovations, those hoping to own a piece of the historic property will get their chance in late May.
Items including paintings, furniture and appliances will be sold beginning at 9 a.m. May 27 at the hotel's renovation project site, 48 E. Market St. in York City, according to a news release from the York County Industrial Development Authority.
Alicia Miller, a spokeswoman for the authority, said many of the hotel's antique items with historical value will be removed for safekeeping and not sold.
The authority has contracted Hellam-based Toomey Auction Service to host the public sale, with food vendors and moving services available during the day.
Toomey Auction Service will host a preview of the items from 6 to 8 p.m. May 26 on site, according to the release. A list of photos of the items for sale will be updated on The Yorktowne Hotel and Toomey Auction Service Facebook pages.
The authority, which purchased the property in late 2015, closed the hotel in November 2016 to begin renovations, which are expected to be complete in 2018.
The $20 million renovation project will be funded in part by a $10 million state grant through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program
Updates on the project will be posted at www.yorktowne.com.
