Comcast increasing speeds for Northeast customers

STAFF REPORT, York Dispatch

Comcast will increase internet download speeds by 33 percent for two of its most popular tiers for free in northeastern states including Pennsylvania, according to a company news release.

Performance Pro customers saw their download speeds increase from 75 Mbps to 100 Mbps, and Blast! customers will see an increase from 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps on Tuesday.

Customers can receive these increased speeds by restarting their modems, and Comcast will contact customers who need to upgrade their modems to receive the increased speeds. Customers leasing their modems through Comcast will receive any needed upgrades for free, the release states.

Spokesman Bob Grove wrote in an email that this represents Comcast's 17th speed increase in 15 years, and nearly half of all northeastern users will now have download speeds of at least 200 Mbps.
