Shipley Energy set for CEO transition in July
- Dave Gruno will take over for Bill Shipley III as Shipley Energy CEO role on July 1.
- Shipley had served as the company's CEO since 1992.
Shipley Energy will transition to a new CEO on July 1 as Dave Gruno takes over for Bill Shipley III, who held the position for 24 years.
Gruno, who has held multiple positions throughout the company since starting in 2004, will be the third CEO outside of the family since Thomas Shipley founded the company in 1929, according to Bill Shipley.
Shipley will become chairman of the board and lend support to the company on a limited basis, according to a company news release.
Shipley said the transition has been eight years in the making, and he feels the timing is appropriate.
In addition to his continued role at Shipley Energy, Shipley is set to begin a full term as chairman of the York College board of trustees and was recently appointed as Gov. Tom Wolf's representative on the Penn State board of trustees.
Shipley said he's most proud of the quality of employees he helped bring in during his time as CEO.
"We've given opportunities to a lot of our people to succeed or fail," he said. "I'm proud of how many quality people have come through our company."
Shipley said the company is positioned well to continue growing, particularly in natural gas and electricity markets.
Gruno, who served most recently as president of Shipley Stores, will work to establish Shipley's presence in those markets in all 49 states where consumers can choose their providers, Shipley said.
Shipley said he's confident in Gruno because Gruno has succeeded in every role he's filled within the company.
