California-based Grocery Outlet Bargain Market is slated to open in the anchor building of Northgate Shopping Center on Aug. 4, according to Christina Gayman, who spoke on behalf of the company.

Grocery Outlet has 250 locations in six states, including stores in Hanover and New Cumberland, and offers prices consistently 40 percent to 70 percent lower than regular retailers, Gayman said.

Gayman said the stores are able to offer lower prices by relying on surplus products from distributors, and customers can expect different products each time they visit the store.

Typical Grocery Outlet locations carry refrigerated and frozen foods, fresh produce, fresh meat, organics, dry groceries, beer, wine, health and beauty care, over-the-counter drugs, household products, toys and gifts.

Current state laws prohibit grocery stores from carrying wine, but state legislators sent a bill to Gov. Tom Wolf's desk on Tuesday that would allow wine sales at such stores.

Gayman added that Grocery Outlet's newer stores tend to emphasize the company's fresh produce and N.O.S.H. (Natural Organic Specialty Healthy) products.

The Manchester Township location will hire approximately 30 employees, Gayman said, and job fairs for open positions will be held at 1500 N. George St. 3-7 p.m. June 27, 7-10 a.m. and 3-7 p.m. June 28 and 7 a.m.-noon June 29.
