Bon-Ton is planning to open a customer service center within its corporate headquarters in Springettsbury Township, according to a company spokeswoman.

Christine Hojnacki wrote in an email that the center, which was needed due to increasing online sales, will open June 13.

Bon-Ton has hired approximately 30 people to work at the center and will hire additional staff as needed based on future growth, Hojnacki wrote.

Hojnacki added that the organization also utilizes an outside company to handle customer service calls, but the decision to expand internally was made because the York headquarters had physical space available.

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc., which operates other department stores including Carson's, Herberger's and Younkers, will report its first-quarter earnings on Thursday, May 19.

The company reported a $57 million net loss during the 2015 fiscal year.
