After executing a search warrant for alleged fraudulent business practices at a York Township pre-owned vehicle dealership last September, the York Area Regional Police Department asked people who purchased vehicles at D&M Auto Sales to give them a call.

The department is now sifting through reports from "hundreds" of those calls with no end in sight, according to Sgt. Pete Montgomery.

York Area Regional's investigation into the business is for fraud and related incidents, Montgomery said.

D&M Auto had remained open at 2873 East Prospect Road for more than a month following the initial investigation, but the company elected to shut down after the state Department of Transportation revoked the business' right to issue temporary titles, Montgomery said.

Alexis Campbell, a PennDOT spokeswoman, wrote in an email that "PennDOT's agreement with D&M Auto was terminated effective October 2015, as part of an ongoing investigation."

An official at Molt LLC, the owner of the building at the corner of East Prospect Road and Edgewood Road, said D&M Auto officially moved out on Dec. 31.

D&M Auto Sales, at 2873 E. Prospect Road in York Township, remained open more than a month following a search warrant executed by York Area Regional Police Department in September.

The dealership had been active since October 2013 and was owned by Dean M. Lake, according to state records. Attempts to reach Lake for comment were unsuccessful.
