Penn Market creates new logo and tagline
"From Farm to City to You," Penn Market's new tagline is part of the market's revitalization efforts in conjunction with its 150th anniversary.
The tagline is featured on the market's new logo, which utilizes the 380 W. Market St. building's unique front windows.
“The logo emulates our beautiful, front windows – part of the market’s rich history in York,” Jimmy Ilyes, the market’s manager, said in a news release, “while the tagline reflects our emphasis moving forward — making fresh food from the farm easily accessible to city shoppers.”
The logo and tagline were produced for free by York-based public relations and marketing firm Gavin, according to a company news release.
Gavin President Mandy Arnold said her company reached out to Ilyes to help provide the market with a brand identity.
"We see branding and marketing resources as being important in building our community," Arnold said. "We're just trying to do what we can."
The firm donated nearly $6,000 in services to create to market's logo, according to the release. The company previously donated its time and resources to create marketing surrounding the WeCo district, where Gavin and Penn Market are both located, Arnold said.
“Our team sees Penn Market as an asset that holds enormous potential in the WeCo district, and we’re thrilled to provide branding tools to support how it tells its story, connects with audiences and serves the community where we live and work," Arnold said in the release.
Penn Market, which changed its name last October from Market and Penn Farmers' Market, has been dealing with "down times," as Ilyes previously said, and is trying to experience a renaissance.
Several new stands have opened up at the market over the past couple of months, and Ilyes is continuing to work on ways to fill a space that could still fit an additional 15-25 vendors, he said.
