FOOD INSPECTIONS: 1 York County establishment out of compliance

David Weissman

The state Department of Agriculture conducts annual inspections of food-serving businesses to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.

Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, employee hygiene and issues with chemicals and how they're handled.

Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.

Below is a list of establishments that were inspected April 13-19.

Regular inspections:

China One, 109 Glen Dr., Manchester, 10 violations

Action: Violations included open employee beverage containers observed on food prep tables; package of cigarettes and lighter observed on food prep table; employee observed drinking from open Red Bell can while preparing food; pans of food stored uncovered inside refrigerator; plastic bowl used as a scoop for rice; food clever jammed between food prep table and bain marie unit; portions of floor and shelving units inside walk-in refrigerator observed unclean; accumulation of food debris and grease under deep fryers and food prep sink; frozen food stored uncovered inside walk-in freezer; bulk containers of sugar, MSG and corn starch stored uncovered in food prep areas; single-use plastic bags being washed and hung to dry; food clever observed with dried food particles adhered to cutting blade; single-use tableware not displayed properly; and hand wash sink observed blackened and inaccessible.
