York County Economic Alliance names interim CEO
Loren Kroh, former chairman of the economic alliance, will take over for 14-year President and CEO Darrell Auterson when he steps down on Jan. 31.
The York County Economic Alliance chose a familiar face to serve as its interim leader once Darrell Auterson steps down at the end of the month.
Loren Kroh, the only person to ever serve as chairman of the Board of Directors for the alliance and the two groups that combined to create it, will serve as interim CEO while a search committee finds a permanent replacement.
Doug Berman, current chairman of YCEA's board, said the board felt Kroh was the alliance's best fit "to keep things moving."
Kroh is "semi-retired," he said, as he's currently serving as board chairman at Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center and YorkCounts. He previously served as president and CEO of the Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts.
Kroh said his priority in the new role will just be to "keep things moving and avoid problems."
"We certainly won't shy away from opportunities, but I'm not the guy that's going to be coming in with a major vision for the future of the organization," Kroh said.
Auterson served as president and CEO of the organization for 14 years, overseeing the combination of the York County Economic Development Corp. and York County Chamber of Commerce into the alliance about four years ago.
Kroh had served on the search committee in the development corporation that found Auterson, and he remembers the organization was in financial turmoil at the time, he said.
"That (Auterson has) been here 14 years is a clear indication that he did a good job," Kroh said.
Berman said John Klinedinst, Immediate Past Chair of the alliance's board, is heading the search committee to find Auterson's permanent replacement. The board is expecting the process to take 6-8 months, Berman said.
"Our priority is to get it right and not rush it," Berman said.
Kroh said he'd be "just fine" if the process was completed earlier.
