Revs officials considering increased parking options
York Revolution President Eric Menzer realizes parking is an issue at the stadium during well-attended games.
"It's been a problem since day one," he said.
The shortage relates to VIP parking, which includes skybox tickets and season-ticket holders, as well as handicapped parking, he said.
"When we're over capacity, it makes people very unhappy," he said. "We end up having to send some people to other parking lots, sometimes shuttle them over to the stadium in golf carts, and I'm left apologizing profusely."
Menzer said he's looking into potential short-term options, including a conceptual conversation with Pedi Cabs of York. But the long-term answer is a parking deck, he said.
Menzer said he's had a conversation with the York County Industrial Development Authority, which owns PeoplesBank Park, about the possibility for a parking deck, but it's "a very long way from reality."
Jack Kay, who until recently was chairman of the IDA, said the authority is always looking for ways to improve the stadium and fan experience, but the conversation about a parking deck was nothing more than a conceptual discussion.
Menzer's current vision, because parking decks are so expensive, is to look into constructing multi-level office buildings surrounding the stadium that include parking decks, he said. The income from leasing out the office space would ultimately fund the additional parking, he added.
As for the coming season, Menzer said the Revs organization, approaching its 10-year anniversary, is focused on improving the fans' game experience. The club plans to release a schedule of promotional events for the coming season this week, he said.
