Home sales in York County continued an upward climb in 2015.

A total of 5,095 homes were sold in the county during 2015, according to statistics released Monday by the Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties.

It marked the first year since 2007 that more than 5,000 homes were sold in the county.

396 homes were sold during December, which represented a 3 percent increase over December 2014. The increase represents the 13th consecutive month the number of homes sold during a specific month was larger than the number sold during the same month of the previous year.

Brian Berkheimer, outgoing president of RAYAC, said he was pleased the market ended the year on a good note and pointed out that every school district in the county saw an increase in home sales.

Northern saw the largest growth in the county with a 45 percent jump in home sales from 2014.

Overall, the county saw a 12 percent growth over the 4,531 homes sold during 2014.

"Not a single (district) struggled, which is good for homeowners in general," Berkheimer said.

Berkheimer said he's hopeful the market will continue its positive trajectory, but a current inventory shortage might slow that growth. He said he couldn't remember the last time not enough houses being on the market was the main issue.

"I have a handful of buyers that are looking for properties that just aren't there right now," Berkheimer said. "We can't sell something that isn't available, but we're hopeful spring will bring more (available houses)."

Berkheimer also said he'd hoped for slightly higher increase in home sales prices.

Homes in York sold for a median price of $152,000 in 2015, which represents a 1 percent increase over the 2014 median of $149,900. The December figure of $140,857 actually represented a 6 percent decrease from December 2014.
