FOOD INSPECTIONS: 3 York County establishments out of compliance
The state Department of Agriculture conducts annual inspections of food-serving businesses to ensure public safety and safe food-handling practices. Schools are inspected twice per year, according to the Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratories.
Whether an establishment is considered compliant or non-compliant is the discretion of the inspector. There are, however, several violations for which inspectors should automatically consider establishments non-compliant. Called "critical violations," they include food temperature issues, employee hygiene and issues with chemicals and how they're handled.
Depending on the severity of the situation, inspectors and their supervisors could file citations or close an establishment.
Below is a list of establishments that were inspected Dec. 23- Jan. 5.
OUT OF COMPLIANCE
Regular inspections:
Burger King, 2199 White St., 8 violations
Action: Violations included original certificate not posted in location conspicuous for public viewing; warewashing machine door hinge broken; outdoor oil receptacle broken; stainless steel pans stored as clean observed with sticker residue; accumulation of dirt and soil observed in floor drains under prep line; plumbing system not maintained in good repair; open sliding door and flap covers observed on dumpsters; and outside waste handling unit and storage area observed extremely dirty and sticky.
A manager at the restaurant chose not to comment on the violations.
Imperial Gourmet, 227 Pauline Dr., 13 violations
Action: Violations included single-use disposable plastic containers being used as scoops; wet wiping cloths observed on prep table and not in sanitizer solution; rice and chocolate puddings held at improper temperature; time being used instead of temperature to control potentially hazardous foods; deeply scored cutting boards observed; can opener and vegetable peeler observed with food residue; cooking equipment, walls and refrigerators observed with accumulation of dirt, soil, grease and food debris; crock pot used for sushi rice stored directly on floor; floor made of tile observed cracked; accumulation of grease and static dust observed on light fixtures and fan covers; evidence of rodent/insect activity in kitchen and dining room areas; and 12-20 rodent-like droppings observed on floor below hand wash sink in kitchen, 12-24 on floor behind ice cream freezer and 20-40 on floor behind dry bulk food tubs.

Illiano's J & P Restaurant & Pizzeria, 1154 W. Elm Ave., Hanover, 14 violations
Action: Violations included food employee observed in food prep area wearing bracelet; employee's beverage container observed open on food prep table; food employees observed without proper hair restraints; various food observed in cooler without covering; knives stored between table edges; plastic glass being used as scoop in ice bin; Styrofoam glasses used as scoops in sugar bins; time instead of temperature used to control potentially hazardous foods; no available sanitizer test strips; loose rubber gaskets observed on sandwich cooling unit; dishwasher's sanitizer levels observed at improper levels; can opener observed with food residue; food spillage observed on bottom shelving in food prep area; clean dish racks stored on floor; and grease build up observed on hood filters.
