Restaurant, furniture shop open along Route 30
Route 30 has two new occupants, which could go hand-in-hand for Yorkers who like to nap after meals.
Taste of Tucson, a southwestern-style restaurant, opened at 1193 Loucks Road on Dec. 1, while La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries opened last Saturday in the former Gish's Furniture location, at 728 Loucks Road.
John Ness, the owner of Taste of Tucson, is a York native who lived in Arizona, first as a member of the Air Force and then working for a missile contractor. He moved back in 2010 and found that he couldn't get many of the Mexican dishes he'd grown accustomed to in Arizona, he said.
Ness said business has been a little slow since opening, but customer favorites include the red chili, Sonoran hot dog (chili, refried beans, salsa, cheese) and Philly cheese dog.
La-Z-Boy has more than 300 furniture galleries across the country, according to spokeswoman Jane Messenger, but this is the first to open in York County and is family-owned and operated.
The shop is one of about 20 with the new format, which is intended to provide a more relaxing shopping experience, Messenger said.
The store is planning to hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony in late January, she said.
