York Water declares dividend for 200th year in a row

The York Water Co. has declared dividends for 200 consecutive years, which is an American record, according to a company press release.

President and CEO Jeffrey Hines announced that the board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of about 15 cents per share during its Nov. 23 meeting. The dividend represented a 4 percent increase that will be payable to shareholders on Jan. 15.

Hines said the company has paid dividends each year since it first shared stock in 1816, even in 1863 when York City was occupied by an invading army.

This is also the 19th consecutive year the company has increased its dividend, according to the release.
