Boutique Week set to highlight York City retailers beginning Tuesday
York's downtown retail merchants will be highlighted with nightly promotions, activities and later hours during York City Boutique Week, Sept. 1-5.
The weeklong event kicks off Tuesday and concludes Saturday night with the York City Boutique Week Fashion Show, which will begin at 7 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre.
Meagan Feeser, marketing director for Downtown Inc, said tickets ($10 for adults, $5 for children) are going quickly for the 300-capacity event featuring more than 40 models sporting looks from 15 local boutiques. The show is expected to wrap up around 8 p.m., Feeser said.
Saturday will also feature a "Frozen" Tea Party at Central Market, where children will have the opportunity to have a tea party with Anna and Elsa, characters from Disney's "Frozen," at 10 a.m. and noon, with tickets costing $20 for two people.
Feeser said tickets for the parties were going fast, but children would have the chance to meet Anna and Elsa on Friday for free at Central Market during First Friday activities.
Themes for the week include BROtique night — where men's fashion will be the focus — on Wednesday; Maker's Night — when "do it yourself" projects will be featured — on Thursday; and Trunk Show Night on Friday. Stores will be open until 7 p.m. throughout the week, Feeser said, except on First Friday, when they will be open later.
North Beaver Street between Market Street and East Philadelphia Street will be closed from 4:30 to 7 p.m. during BROtique night on Wednesday, Feeser said, as food trucks and pop-up vendors will be present. The idea to have a night focusing on men's fashion came from previous events focusing on men that tried to get them to shop for their significant others, she said.
"Feedback we received showed men wanted an event where they could shop for themselves," Feeser said.
This is York's fourth Boutique Week, she said, and acts as a "sister event" to Restaurant Week. "It's time to shine the spotlight on our retail merchants," Feeser said.
