Free apples to be given out in York City Tuesday
An apple a day might keep the doctor away.
For one day only, Family First Health will give out apples in York's Continental Square as part of its monthlong "Starts With Apples" campaign.
Along with the apples, staff and volunteers will hand out information from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday on how to take control of your health.
October marks National Healthy Literacy Month and National Apple Month.
Health literacy is the ability to understand health information and make good decisions about your health, from preventative care to healthy food choices that go beyond the confines of the doctor's office.
The public can visit www.startswithapples.com for more information on becoming health literate and working with their health care team, and employers can download a free, digital "Get Healthy At Work" kit including posters, a health pledge and a templated award for employees committed to their health.
