PURE PREPS: Dover lineman Chase Heath picked for PSFCA East-West All-Star Football Game
Dover High School football standout Chase Heath will have the opportunity to play with and against some of the state's best players this spring.
The Eagles' defensive lineman was picked for the West team in the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star Football Game, set for 2 p.m. Sunday, May 6, at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona.
The 6-foot, 3-inch, 240-pound Heath was a force on the defensive line for the Eagles, helping them make a run for the York-Adams Division II crown. Heath led the Eagles in sacks with eight. He finished with 64 total tackles (13 solo, 51 assisted).
Heath was named the Y-A D-II Defensive Player of the year and has recently announced that he will continue his football career at Bloomsburg University, an NCAA Division II school in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
Heath announced his decision on his Twitter site (Chase_Heath35) on Jan. 29, saying:
"First off, I'd like to thank God for the ability that he gave me to play the best game in the world. Thank you to all of the coaches that recruited me. The whole process has been a crazy ride and I couldn't be more blessed to be in the situation that I was with recruiting. Thank you to my family for being supportive of my decision, and helping me along the way. I would like to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at Bloomsburg University."
Dover finished 6-4 overall and a loss in Week 10 to Susquehannock prevented it from capturing the Division II title. With Heath's help, the Eagles ranked fifth in the league in defense, allowing 266.1 yards per game and were third in pass defense.
The East-West All-Star Game features a total of 68 players, with 34 on each roster. It was previously announced that Red Lion coach Jesse Shay will be an assistant coach for the West team.
The East-West All-Star Game has been played 16 times since 2001, with the East holding a 10-6 series advantage.
The roster for the 61st Pennsylvania Big 33 team will be announced on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The Big 33 Classic is also now organized by the PSFCA and will be played June 16 at Landis Field near Harrisburg.
The Big 33 Classic has been in operation since 1958 in various forms and is generally regarded as one of the most prestigious high school all-star football games in the nation. The Pennsylvania team will again take on an all-star team from Maryland this summer.
