PURE PREPS: Northeastern High graduate Luke Braswell earns volleyball honor at Penn State
Penn State redshirt sophomore Luke Braswell was named the Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Offensive Player of the Week.
The honor was announced by the conference Monday night.
A product of the powerhouse Northeastern High School program, the 6-foot, 4-inch Braswell helped the No. 9 Nittany Lions to a 2-0 week by averaging 9.86 assists per set. Braswell started the week by dishing out 39 assists during a 3-1 victory against Mount Olive. He followed that effort with 30 more assists during a 3-0 sweep of Alderson Broaddus.
His assists helped the Lions to a .522 hitting percentage during the week, with Braswell adding four kills of his own along the way.
It marks the first EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honor for Braswell in 2018.
Next up for Penn State is a trip to Los Angeles to take part in the PAC-12/Big Ten Challenge, where the Nittany Lions will face UCLA and USC at Pauley Pavilion.
Pauley Pavilion is slated to be the site of the 2018 NCAA Men's Volleyball Championships in May.
