BLOG: Saturday's state sites set for York-Adams teams
Susquehannock won't have to travel too far for its PIAA Class 2-A second-round state girls' lacrosse playoff game.
The other York-Adams League team still alive in the girls' lacrosse state playoffs will face a much longer trip.
The District 3 champion Warriors (21-3) will take on Hershey (13-6), the fourth-place team from District 3, at Cumberland Valley High School at 4 p.m. Saturday. That's a trip of about 50 miles for the Warriors for the quarterfinal meeting. Susquehannock already owns a win over Hershey, 18-10, during the District 3 Class 2-A semifinals.
The only other York-Adams girls' lacrosse team still alive this season is Kennard-Dale. The District 3 runner-up Rams (19-2-1) will travel to State College at 4 p.m. Saturday for a quarterfinal battle against District 7 runner-up (Pittsburgh) Oakland Catholic. That is a journey of 140 miles for the Rams.
If the Rams and Warriors both win Saturday, they will face off in the state semifinals on Tuesday at a site and time to be determined. The Rams and Warriors split their two meetings this season. K-D won in the regular season, 15-12, while Susquehannock won in the District 3 2-A title game, 13-12.
Boys' volleyball: There are three York-Adams League teams still alive in the state boys' volleyball quarterfinals.
In Class 3-A, District 3 champion Central York will face off against District 1 runner-up Pennsbury at Schuylkill Valley High School in Leesport at 7 p.m. Saturday — a trip of just more than 60 miles. The Panthers are ranked No. 1 in the latest Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class 3-A poll, while Pennsbury is No. 8.
District 3 Class 2-A champion Northeastern will also play at Schuylkill Valley at 5 p.m. Saturday against District 1 champion Dock Mennonite. Northeastern is No. 1 in the PVCA 2-A poll, while Dock Mennonite is No. 10.
District 3 2-A runner-up York Suburban battles District 7 champion Beaver County Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday at Claysburg-Kimmel High School, a trip of nearly 140 miles. Suburban is No. 3 in the PVCA 2-A poll, while BCC is No. 2.
Baseball: The sites and times for Thursday's District 3 playoff games involving York-Adams teams have also been set.
Second-seeded Dallastown (19-4) will battle top-seeded Gov. Mifflin (17-5) at 7 p.m. Thursday at Reading's First Energy Stadium. Gov. Mifflin punched its ticket to the final with a 4-2 win vs. fourth-seeded Warwick (14-7) on Wednesday. Dallastown won its semifinal on Tuesday, 3-0, vs. third-seeded Penn Manor (14-7).
In the Class 4-A championship game, sixth-seeded Kennard-Dale (17-3) faces fifth-seeded East Pennsboro (16-4) at Northern York High School at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. East Pennsboro earned its championship berth with a 4-2 victory vs. ninth-seeded West Perry (15-8) on Wednesday. K-D beat 10th-seeded West York (12-11) in its semifinal on Tuesday, 5-4 in eight innings.
West York will meet West Perry in the third-place game at 4 p.m. Thursday at Northern York. The winner gets a state playoff berth.
