The York Suburban boys' volleyball team has soared to No. 4 in the latest Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class 2-A state rankings.

Just the week before, the Trojans were not even ranked in the top 10.

Suburban can likely thank a pair of heartbreaking losses to top-ranked Northeastern for its big move up in the rankings.

Last Tuesday, the Trojans gave the Bobcats all they could handle before suffering a York-Adams League home loss, 18-25, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 15-10.

They followed that with a 25-22, 29-27, 25-23 non-league win over Palmyra on Thursday. Palmyra is ranked No. 10 in the latest 2-A rankings.

Then on Saturday, at the prestigious Bobcat Invitational at Northeastern, the Trojans battled their way into the Championship Bracket before again falling to the host school in the semifinals in another achingly close battle, 15-10, 13-15, 16-14.

Northeastern rolls to Bobcat Invitational victory

Northeastern would go on to win the tournament and remain No. 1 in the 2-A state rankings. The Bobcats beat Emmaus in the title match, 21-16, 18-21, 19-17. Emmaus is now No. 2 in the PVCA 3-A poll, moving up from the No. 6 spot.

Central York, meanwhile, dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in the 3-A state rankings. The Panthers fell to Central Dauphin in the quarterfinals of the Bobcat Invitational, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9. Central Dauphin moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 in the latest 3-A poll.

Suburban plays host to Central York in a key York-Adams League match at 7 Tuesday night.

The latest 2-A top 10 includes: 1. Northeastern. 2. Manheim Central. 3. Beaver County Christian. 4. York Suburban. 5. Cambridge Springs. 6. Ambridge. 7. Fort Lebouf. 8. Bishop Guilfoyle. 9. Holy Redeemer. 10. Palmyra.
