BLOG: Brooks, other area stars set for all-star program

Local high school basketball fans will get at least one more opportunity to see Spring Grove standout Eli Brooks compete on the hardwood.

Brooks, who has committed to play NCAA Division I basketball for Michigan, will play for Pennsylvania on Saturday night, April 8, in an all-star game against Maryland at Harrisburg Christian. It is the final and featured contest in a nine-game senior all-star showcase at Harrisburg Christian on Friday, April 7, and Saturday April 8.

Spring Grove's Eli Brooks was a first-team all-state selection on the Class 5-A level.

The tip-off for the Pennsylvania-Maryland game on April 8 is set for 8:30 p.m. The Pennsylvania team will be coached by Eli's father, James Brooks, who coached Eli at Spring Grove High School. Eli and James Brooks helped Spring Grove to the PIAA Class 5-A quarterfinals this season and an overall record of 22-8. Eli Brooks finished second on the all-time York County scoring list with 2,426 points. He averaged 29.1 points per game this season.

York Country Day standout DeAireus Brown will also play for the Pennsylvania all-stars. Brown scored more than 1,000 points during his high school career and helped the Greyhounds to consecutive District 3 Class 1-A championships.

The other members of the Pennsylvania team are: Austin Gilbertson, Trinity; Chris Whitaker, Harrisburg; Taylor Funk, Manheim Central; Brennen Jackson, Central Dauphin East; Cade Alioth, Mechanicsburg; Tim Edwards, Trinity; Amos Luptak, Quaker Valley; Mason Bossert, ELCO; Chris Briner, Bishop McDevitt; and Ben Sandberg, Lampeter-Strasburg.

Funk is a St. Joseph's recruit. Brooks and Funk are AAU teammates for the Jersey Shore Warriors.

Other games: Following is a look at the other York-Adams League players expected to compete in the Harrisburg Christian showcase.

►Northeastern's Brandon Coleman will take part in a contest pitting the East Coast North Boys vs. the East Coast South Boys at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 8, Coleman helped Northeastern to the District 3 Class 5-A championship and the PIAA Class 5-A state semifinals. He averaged 14.3 points per game.

►Two more York County players will compete in a game pitting the Pennsylvania North Boys vs. the Pennsylvania South Boys at 4:45 p.m. Saturday, April 8. York High's Jayden Iturmendi will play for the North team, while York Tech's Jedediah Smith will play for the South team.

►On Friday, April 7, the Capital Area will take on Pennsylvania in an 8:30 p.m. tip-off. Four York County boys' players are on the Pennsylvania roster: Tyler Diggs, Hanover; Melik Martin, York Catholic; Kenton Meckley, West York; and Evan Czulda, Central York.

►New Oxford's Haley Still will play for the Pennsylvania girls in a game against the Capital Area at 7:15 p.m Friday, April 7.

►Susquehannock's Adam Hedgeland is on the Mid-Atlantic boys' team, which will take on the Keystone team at 6 p.m. Friday, April 7.
