BLOG: Eastern grad Reichard playing in D-III Sweet 16
As the field of 68 for the men's NCAA Tournament gets gradually filled over the next few days, one York County player is already taking part in another NCAA Tournament.
Eastern York graduate Dalton Reichard is a member of the Susquehanna University men's basketball team and is about to play in the Division III Sweet 16 on Friday.
Reichard, who graduated from Eastern York in 2013, is in his senior season and playing a significant role for the River Hawks in their quest for a national championship. A transfer from Lock Haven, Reichard starts for Susquehanna (22-5) and is averaging 7.0 points per game this year. He's a sharp-shooting guard, shooting 47 percent on 3-pointers and 93 percent from the free throw line.
The River Hawks were a host site for the first two rounds of the tournament last weekend. In the opener against Medaille, Susquehanna came away with an 89-82 victory, in which Reichard scored 12 points and added six assists in 31 minutes.
In the second round, the River Hawks were in another close contest, but slipped past Eastern Connecticut State, 67-62, to book their spot in the Sweet 16. In that game, the 6-foot Reichard didn't make a field goal, but went 5 of 6 from the line to finish with five points.
Reichard, who is studying business administration, is the son of current Eastern York boys' coach Jon Reichard.
Susquehanna will face Williams on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. at Middlebury College.
