Dallastown High School senior Steven Dunczyk will have a $4,000 head start on his college education.
Dunczyk, a two-year starter for the Wildcats' football team, has been selected as the 2017 winner of the annual Quarterback Club of York Scholarship. He will receive a $4,000 scholarship, payable at $1,000 per year for the first four consecutive years that he remains in school carrying a full load of studies.
The other nominees for the award were Sam Emig of Red Lion, Anthony Beddia of Spring Grove, Dimitri Plakas of Hanover, Cole Jesmer of Dover and Nathan VanCampen of South Western.
The scholarship will be awarded to Dunczyk at the annual scholarship award banquet, which will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, at San Carlo's Restaurant in York. A social hour will begin at 6 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m., followed by the awards and comments from the guest speaker, Barry Streeter, who is head football coach at Gettysburg College.
Also at the banquet, the York-Adams League football players of the year in Division I, Division II and Division III will be honored.
In Division I, Emig, a quarterback, was named the Offensive Player of the Year, while Red Lion senior lineman Nick Argento was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, along with Spring Grove senior lineman Owen Jacobs. Coach of the Year honors went to the Lions' head man, Jesse Shay.
In Division II, York Suburban swept all three categories, with senior quarterback Ben Igo winning Offensive Player of the Year, senior linebacker Teague Hoffman taking home Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Andy Loucks being named Coach of the Year.
In Division III, York Catholic matched the Trojans by sweeping the honors, with senior running back and defensive back Jakkar Kinard and senior quarterback and defensive back Dan Yokemick earning Co-Player of the Year recognition and head coach Eric DePew being named Coach of the Year.
