BLOG: Boys' basketball showcase set for Gettysburg

Boys' basketball showcases seem to be all the rage this season.

A couple of weeks ago, two major showcases were held on the same day. West York played host to the War of the Roses Showcase, pitting York-Adams teams vs. Lancaster-Lebanon teams, while Manheim Central played host to the Lancaster-Lebanon Section II vs. York-Adams Division II Showcase.

Saturday at Gettysburg High School, another major showcase is planned, pitting York-Adams teams against Mid-Penn opponents.

Action starts at 11:30 a.m. and should conclude around 9:30 p.m. In all, there are seven games scheduled.

Tickets for the event are $6 for adults and $3 for students.

Three of the games will match teams with winning records: Bishop McDevitt (8-5) vs. Central York (10-6) at 2:20 p.m., Waynesboro (10-5) vs. Spring Grove (10-4) at 5:10 p.m. and Palmyra (14-2) vs. New Oxford (9-6) at 6:35 p.m.

Those games could have a major impact on the District 3 hopes and seedings for all six of those teams.

McDevitt is No. 3 in the Class 4-A power ratings, while Central is No. 11 in 6-A. Waynesboro is No. 12 in 5-A, while Spring Grove is No. 5 in 5-A. Palmyra is No. 3 in 5-A, while New Oxford is No. 10 in 5-A.

Saturday's game could be particularly crucial for Central. Only 12 teams make the district field in 6-A. For the Panthers, the game Saturday follows a Friday meeting vs. unbeaten Northeastern. Two losses over the weekend could push Central out of the district playoffs.

Sixteen teams make the 5-A district playoffs, while 10 will qualify in 4-A.

Spring Grove star Eli Brooks, meanwhile, has been on a scoring tear of late and is now averaging a York-Adams League-best 30.1 points per game. The Michigan recruit is 53 points away from 2,000 for his career.

Following is the complete list of showcase matchups and their records through Wednesday's games:

Camp Hill (7-8) vs. Bermudian Springs (3-12), 11:30 a.m.

Boiling Springs (2-10) vs. South Western (2-13), 12:55 p.m.

Bishop McDevitt (8-5) vs. Central York (10-6), 2:20 p.m.

Mechanicsburg (12-3) vs. West York (5-10), 3:45 p.m.

Waynesboro (10-5) vs. Spring Grove (10-4), 5:10 p.m.

Palmyra (14-2) vs. New Oxford (9-6), 6:35 p.m.

Central York's Courtney Batts is seen here earlier this season. The Panthers are one of three remaining Division I teams left in the Y-A League boys' tournament.
