BLOG: Susquehannock plays where Olympians train
The Susquehannock and South Western field hockey teams were treated to a unique experience Friday when they squared off at the Spooky Nook Sports complex.
The Lancaster County facility is the training home of the United States Women’s Field Hockey National Team.
Warriors head coach Tracey Kerr said the game came about after South Western head coach Holly Long reached out to her about the two teams playing at Spooky Nook.
“It is really exciting for the girls to play where the Olympic team trains, especially in an Olympic year,” Kerr said in a news release.
The players noted the game, played on artificial turf, was more fast-paced and tiring, but the opportunity provided an exciting new experience for the team.
"I got to see a USA-vs.-Ireland field hockey game there before the Olympics,” Susquehannock's Maggie Howells said in the news release. “It’s a really fast game on the Astro Turf.”
Susquehannock came away with a 5-1 victory.
