BLOG: County players dominate district volleyball squad


The Northeastern boys' volleyball team led the way with six of the York-Adams League's 10 selections to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association All-District 3-AA teams.

The local league dominated the first team, taking six of the eight spots.

On that first team were Northeastern hitters Reese Devilbiss, Dakoda Hoffman and Jeff Reynolds, as well as Bobcats setter Matt Schaeffer. Also on the first team were York Suburban's Kaleb Ansell and Jack Schultz.

Northeastern placed hitter Brandon Arentz and libero Chris Lee on the second team. They were joined by fellow Y-A hitters Quinn Kauffman of Susquehannock and Sepehr Vakili of Suburban.

The Bobcats and Trojans are set to meet on Tuesday in the PIAA Class AA state semifinals at 7 p.m. at Central York High School.

Northeastern boys again win district volleyball title

Northeastern defeated Suburban, 25-19, 25-11, 25-22 on May 27 for its fourth straight District 3 championship. Northeastern also swept Suburban during the regular season. The Bobcats need a win in Tuesday's rematch if they are to have a chance to claim their fourth straight PIAA championship, as well. Northeastern is 21-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in AA by the PVCA. Suburban is 17-4 and ranked No. 5.

Tuesday's winner moves on to play either No. 7 Ambridge or No. 3 Saegertown on Saturday at Penn State University's Rec Hall. The state title match begins at 11 a.m.


Dallastown softball starts state run: The Dallastown softball team opens PIAA play Monday at 6 p.m. at Spring-Ford High School.

The Wildcats take on Perkiomen Valley. The Wildcats enter the tournament as the fourth seed from District 3 and face a tough task against top team out of District 1. The winner moves on to face the Hazleton-Penn Manor winner on Thursday in the state quarterfinals.
