BLOG: York County athletes fuel Stevenson volleyball

Central York High School graduate Landon Shorts, a freshman at Stevenson University, was recently named Player of the Week by the Continental Volleyball Conference for the second time this season.

The Mustangs recently won the league title and will compete in the NCAA Division III Tournament starting Friday, April 22, in Rochester, New York, vs. Carthage. Stevenson is 25-7 overall.

Stevenson is located in nearby Owings Mills, Maryland, which is just more than 50 miles from York.

Shorts, a 6-foot, 2-inch outside hitter, leads Stevenson in kills (324), service aces (50) and points scored (400.0). He has a .326 hitting percentage

Several other York County players are also on the Stevenson roster, including junior Nate Ellis (Kennard-Dale), freshman Jason Gardner (Central York), freshman Owen Terroso (Dallastown), sophomore Alex Klunk (Central York) and freshman Philip White (Northeastern). Shorts, Ellis, Gardner and Terroso are starters.

Ellis, a 6-6 middle blocker, leads the Mustangs in blocks (114), and he’s third in kills (208) and points (290.0).

Northeastern grad Stephen Braswell excels on D-I level

Gardner, a 6-3 opposite/middle back, has 139 kills while scoring 167.5 points. Terroso, the Mustangs' 5-9 libero, is second on the team in digs with 174. Klunk, a 6-3 middle blocker, has 23 kills and 15 blocks, while the 6-2 White is an opposite and has 11 kills and 11 digs.
