BLOG: Northeastern No. 1 in state in boys' volleyball
File this one in the no big surprise folder.
The Northeastern Bobcats, the three-time defending PIAA Class AA state boys' volleyball champions, have been ranked No. 1 in the state in AA in the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Preseason Poll.
The Bobcats return nearly all of their key starters from last season's championship outfit.
The focus starts with senior standout Reese Devilbiss. An Ohio State recruit, the three-time all-state selection may be the most dominant outside hitter in Pennsylvania. Devilbiss, by himself, might make a team an automatic state title contender. But the Bobcats will have four other all-state players returning for their senior seasons. Setter Matt Schaeffer, libero Chris Lee, middle hitter Jeff Reynolds and outsider hitter Brandon Arentz are all back.
Another York-Adams school, York Suburban, is ranked No. 6 in the state AA preseason poll.
In AAA, Red Lion comes in ranked No. 10.
Here are the complete polls, with each school's district in parenthesis:
