York City Mayor Michael Helfrich will deliver an Arbor Day proclamation as the city celebrates trees at 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, in Penn Park at Lindberg and College avenues.

Hosted by the city’s Parks and Recreation department, the event will enlist McKinley K-8 students in tree planting. Arbor Day, which promotes the planting and care of trees, was first observed in Nebraska in 1872.
