Meet the critters that live in seasonal wetland areas in Gifford Pinchot State Park during two vernal pool walk programs in April.

The park naturalist or park volunteers will lead 90-minute hikes through easy to moderate terrain during the family-friendly programs. Attendees should wear sturdy shoes and expect they will get a little wet and muddy. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

The first walk starts at 7 p.m. Friday, April 13, and will discuss the ecology of vernal pools and explore the animals living in the forest ponds. Attendees are asked to bring a flashlight.

The second walk starts at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and will show off improvements made to forest ponds, including native plantings.

For both walks, participants should meet at the campground office at the campground entrance along East Camping Area Road.
