The United Way of York County has partnered with the Downtown Rotary, Family First Health and the York County Literacy Council to launch Reach Out and Read, through which pediatricians will issue a “prescription” for children to read at home. At every well visit, children ages 6 months through 5 years old will receive a new book to take home with them.

Funding for the three-year program was provided by United Way of York County, Downtown Rotary, and the Early Learning Investment Commission. Additional contributions were made by the Meckley Foundation and Dillsburg Kiwanis.

Family First Health will roll out ROAR four of their locations beginning Wednesday:

  • George Street Center, 116 S. George St., 717-845-8617
  • Hannah Penn Center, located inside Hannah Penn Middle School, 415 E. Boundary Ave., 717-843-5174
  • Lewisberry Center, 308 Market St., Lewisberry, 717-938-6695
  • Hanover Center, 1230 High St., Hanover, 717-632-9052
