Be prepared for emergencies


York City has announced it will offer a free Family Emergency Preparedness course in September in recognition of National Preparedness Month.

Classes will be held 6:30-9 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 7, 14, 21 and 28, at fire station 9, 800 Roosevelt Ave. Sessions will include information on basic disaster preparedness, developing a family emergency plan, emergency first aid, search and rescue, and animal and pets in a disaster.

Participants must pre-register by Thursday, Aug. 31. Children attending the class must be at least in middle school and accompanied by a parent enrolled in the class.
