The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host three excursion programs with rides designed to see the parks’ backwoods and enjoy the outdoors.

The one-hour rides, a trailer with benches pulled by a pickup truck, will be narrated by Jeri Jones, program coordinator.

Dress for the weather. Rides will be cancelled if raining.

The schedule is:

11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, June 15, in John Rudy County Park, 400 Mundis Race Road. See the Master Gardeners’ gardens, Canine Meadows, maintenance building and sport fields and view the sun through a telescope at the observatory. Cost: $7 per person.

11 a.m. and 1 and 7 p.m. Thursday, July 27, in Heritage Rail Trail County Park, Brillhart Station parking area, Days Mill and Brillhart Station roads. Take a ride on the Rail Trail passing through Howard Tunnel and learn some of the history and folklore of the region. Cost: $10 per person.

11 a.m. and 1 and 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in Heritage Rail Trail County Park, Brillhart Station parking area, Days Mill and Brillhart Station roads. Take a ride on the Rail Trail passing through Howard Tunnel and learn about the history and folklore of the region. Some geologic information will also be shared in honor of National Earth Science Week. Cost: $10 per person.
