The York County Department of Parks and Recreation has announced five events in October.

  • Moonlight dog walk, 7-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at John Rudy Park, from Cardinal pavilion off of Deininger Road. Features dog games and light refreshments. Admission is $5 per person.
  • Fall-colors walk, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, at Nixon Park. Free admission.
  • Beginners’ bird walk, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Nixon Park. Bring binoculars (a few are available to borrow). Free admission.
  • Ghost walk, 7-9:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at P. Joseph Raab County Park. Jeri Jones, parks program coordinator, will lead the group into the darkness of a 19th century iron mine property. Bring a flashlight. Admission is free; pre-registration is requested.
  • Hike in search of how animals prepare for winter, 2:30-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at Nixon Park. Free admission.
