The 35th annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service will honor 79 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2015 including one from York County, 10 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the National Fire Academy, 16825 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, Maryland.

Wrightsville Fire Police Lt. Curtis E. Nordsick Sr. died on April 19 at the age of 71 while assisting with traffic control at the scene of a homicide. His name will be among those added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on the academy grounds.

The tribute is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security’s U.S. Fire Administration. Thousands are expected to attend the service, including families and friends of the fallen firefighters, members of Congress, administration officials and other dignitaries.
