The York County Department of Parks and Recreation will host a Maple Sugar Fest during the last weekend in February and first weekend in March at the Nixon County Park Nature Center.

Parks staff will lead ongoing educational tours of the various stations, held hourly from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays and 1-3 p.m. Sundays.

Other events are:

-- Self-guided maple sugaring storywalk on a park trail, Feb. 27 to March 6.

-- Maple sugaring scavenger hunt in the Nature Center.

-- Learn to Start Your Own Maple Sugaring Production, 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. There is a $10 fee and pre-registration is required by calling 428-1961.

-- Sugaring presentations, 1 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 6.

-- Activities and crafts throughout the Nature Center and maple-related products for sale from Patterson Farms.

Hours are 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 27 and March 5, and noon-4 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 28 and March 6.

Weekend admission is $2 per person or free for park members and children ages 5 and younger.
