What's happening in York this weekend
Check out the talent at Penn State York at Paw Search, a talent show benefiting THON, 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at the Pullo Center on the campus. The variety show features a wide array of performances as well as comedian Maggie Mae. Tickets: $10, $5 students and children under 12, children under 3 free. Proceeds go to THON, which raises money to find a cure for pediatric cancer. Information: http://pullocenter.york.psu.edu.
The Belmont Theatre stars the year off with a laugh as it presents Neil Simon's "Plaza Suite," Jan. 12-21 in the Bon-Ton Studio at the theater, 27 S. Belmont St. The comedy is one of Simon's best known and looks at three successive couples staying at the Plaza Hotel in New York. Showtimes: 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 p.m. Sundays. If you can't beat the cold, enjoy it! The annual Festivice festival comes to downtown York Saturday, Jan. 13, with ice sculptors, an ice slide, live music, fire pits, s'mores kits and much more. The free event in Cherry Lane Park and on Beaver Street will also include free showings of "Frozen" at noon and 3 p.m. at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. Caputo Brothers Creamery presents "Tuscany, Nose to Tail — An Afternoon with World-Famous Butcher Dario Cecchini," Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Pullo Center, on the campus of Penn State York. After Artisan Meat Up, a showcase of local food artisans beginning at 1:30 p.m., Cecchini will take the stage at 3 p.m. to carve a pig using the "no waste" philosophy applied at his restaurants in Italy. Silent film buffs get a treat as the Capitol Theatre presents "Sherlock Jr.," 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17. Buster Keaton stars, and the film will be accompanied live on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ. Arrive early for a pre-show concert at the theater, 50 N. George St. Free. Information: appellcenter.org.
